The Colebrook store is one of the more prominent buildings that make up the center of Colebrook. The store has undergone various changes such as the installation of gas pumps out front to service automobiles and they have been removed subsequently. It also had the post office connected to the side of the building. The post office has moved across the street. The building itself is a 2 story framed structure with a pediment supported by 4 Tuscan columns. Colebrook was mainly an agricultural town and the store served as a place to exchange products, purchase of supplies and manufactured goods.

It was built by Captain William Swift in 1812, a carpenter, who spent most of his life turning out bedsteads. Thru his travels or guidebooks, he mastered the Adam style of architecture. He used his skills in other towns. The Colebrook is advanced form of Adams style, whereas other buildings of this nature, the style was achieved by simply tacking on Adam style ornamentation.
