The Major Ripley Allen Arnold Monument consists of a bronze statue standing atop a granite pedestal. Each side of the monument has the following engraving:
Major Ripley Allen Arnold
Commandant and Founder of Fort Worth
The statue depicts Brevet Major Arnold (1817 - 1853) gazing upward towards the bluff where the actual Fort used to stand, now the Tarrant County Courthouse and Criminal Courts buildings. The artist, Archie St. Clair, immersed himself in 19th century history to make sure that every detail of Maj. Arnold's dress uniform is accurate. He is shown holding a cavalry saber horizontally, one hand on the hilt, the other hand pinching the blade with the edge down.
At the time of dedication, the monument is one of the largest bronze monuments in Fort Worth.
The monument stands in McMillan Plaza which also includes granite blocks with plaques mounted on them recounting some historic details.
