This is one of several substations for the Southwest Regional Police Department, which was established in 2003 to offer regional police protection, rather than rely on each municipality having their own force.
Newell is part of the Eastern Sector, which also includes Belle Vernon in Fayette County along with Coal Center and Long Branch across the river from Newell in Washington County.

I have had NO problems with taking photos of Police stations but please respect the fact that some services may be nervous about having their photo taken and inquire as to why... I have found that once things are explained they are more than happy to let me photograph the building, crest, chief... (they are people too!)
