Newell Borough is located in the northwestern portion of Fayette County along the Monongahela River. The Borough contains a variety of uses including residential, neighborhood commercial and industry. The industrial uses are evident in the landscape, especially near the river and rail lines.
There are 541 residents within 222 households in the borough and there is a fire department, two churches, a railroad terminal, and a chemical plant.
The Borough Building was constructed in 1975, accroding to property records and is of a pole-type construction. Within this pole building is borough offices, council chambers, the borough's maintenance garage and a substation of the Southwest Regional PD, which began in 2003, with the closing of the Newell Borough Police Department.
