This Ansel Adams photo is shown at the
Norton Simon Museum website. shown In the upper right portion of the photo is St. Catherine's Catholic Church. Hornitos is small place located outside of Yosemite, where Adams is know for taking many of his photos.
Even though the photo is titled The White Church when one looks at the photo, what consumes the vast area of the photo is the slat picket fence running diagonally across the photo and also horizontally near true top. The church happens to be in the photo, but the artistic element is the fence pattern.
Today that fence is no longer there at the white church. Only barbed wire editions of the fence are present and they don’t have the same artistic feel. But I took these photos from a trampled grass area, almost as if others had come to this spot to see what Adams saw.
