During the Revolutionary War, Campaign of 1781 General Lafayette and his troops marched from Maryland toward Richmond. On the Night of April 27, 1781 the General and his men camped near here. This historical marker is located on the ground of the Carolina County Courthouse in Bowling Green, Virginia. The text of the marker reads:

CAMPAIGN OF 1781
"Lafayette, marching from Head of Elk, Maryland, to Richmond, camped here the night of April 27, 1781."
