Sykeston was founded in 1883 by Richard Sykes. It was the first county seat of Wells County starting in 1884 but in 1894 the county seat moved to Fessenden. Sykeston was incorporated as a village in 1905 and reached it's peak in 1920 with a population of 367. It became a city in 1925 and now has a population of 117 (2010 census).
The combination Fire Hall and City Hall is a modern building with steel siding and a peaked, shingled roof.
