Catawampus is a two-sided mural with an feline theme, featuring animals, patterns, and trees. It was created by Suzanne Adan, 1990.
Each side of the mural features a brown and beige pattern of 4-inch tiles, the east and west sides with unique designs. The mural measures approximately 4 feet by 6 feet with a plain beige tile border adding another 4 inches on each side.
The east-facing mural features a bird, a cat, and a dog with human-like postures and body parts. Indeed, one wonders if these are not people with animal masks on. There are also multiple figures of trees and bushes, various objects and shapes forming a mesmerizing background. There are two layers of border tiles with straight lines, diagonals, and basic shapes framing the centerpiece.
The west-facing mural shows two more cat figures faced on each side by entities with masks; one a donkey head and the other a bird mask.
Both sides are framed by charcoal colored tiles.
This art is part of a housing development project along Turn Pike Drive in Folsom, California which features a work of art on almost every major intersection along that street.
