... byl ceský sochar, malír a grafik a spisovatel. Studoval na umeleckoprumyslové škole v Praze u Celdy Kloucka, E. K. Lišky, Stanislava Suchardy (1897–1901) a Akademii výtvarných umení u Maxe Pirnera (1901–1905), kde se roku 1919 stal profesorem a ve druhé polovine 30. let jejím rektorem. Jako malír tvoril v akademicko-symbolistním smeru, zameroval se na dekorativní nástennou malbu, ženské figurální motivy. Socharství se soustavne zacal venovat pozdeji, vedle ženských soch tvoril také sochy sportovcu a s antickými motivy. Podílel se na vytvárení prvních ceskoslovenských poštovních známek, je autorem napríklad sochy Vraždící Odysseus, nebo památníku selských bourí v Chlumci nad Cidlinou. V roce 1932 obdržel prestižní ocenení Cena JUDr. Jirího Katze. Na olympijských hrách v Los Angeles v roce 1932 získal bronzovou medaili za sochu Odysseus.

He was born in Brno-Bystrc and died in Prague.He designed early stamps of the new Republic of Czechoslovakia: the lion escaping from its chains (28 October 1919), the allegory of economy (1920).In 1932 he won a bronze medal for Czechoslovakia in the art competitions of the Olympics games for his "Odysseus".
