The chair lift , a cable car circulation with two-seat hangers , was built in 1954 as the first such system in Rhineland- Palatinate. The half-mile long route runs from east to west through the forest in which beech and chestnut trees dominate . The distinctive , visible even from a distance path is to the Rhine Rift open. The route is accompanied , sometimes crossed by a trail that is marked with a red dot and a serpentine ascent to the castle in about 45 minutes allows .
In both directions the Rietburgbahn overcomes within about eight minutes a height difference of 220 meters. In this case , the average height of the chair above ground three to four meters . In some places , especially if red sandstone cliffs rise from the hillside , this distance is also below . At the mountain ride the passengers look down into the forest and up towards the castle , while the descent there is the wide view of the several hundred meters below Rhine valley. To the Castle Festival in July / August and night lantern tours are offered .
