Assente em plataforma com cinco degraus quadrados reforçada por base de um único degrau com a mesma configuração, o fuste da coluna do pelourinho ergue-se sobre grande paralelepipédico chanfrado nos ângulos e moldurado inferior e superiormente, inscrevendo-se no estilo manuelino pelos toros espiralados que o compõem. Mas sobretudo pelo capitel, onde coexiste uma pirâmide truncada invertida lavrada nas faces - uma das quais ostentando brasão -, perfazendo tabuleiro quadrado encimado por colunelos torcidos nos cantos e um quinto, ao centro, a suportar esfera armilar.
Em Portugal Pelourinho ou picota são colunas de pedra colocadas em lugar público da cidade ou vila onde os criminosos eram expostos para a vergonha pública e os presos eram amarrados e açoitados ou mutilados, consoante a gravidade do delito e os costumes da época.
O Pelourinho era também prova e instrumento da jurisdição feudal.

Building on the square platform with five steps based on a single reinforced step with the same configuration, the stem of the pillory column stands on a large parallelepiped chamfered corners and framed in the lower and upper regions, enrolling at the log spiral Manueline that compose it. But most of all the captains, where it coexists an inverted truncated pyramid drawn on the faces - one of which bearing arms - making square board topped by twisted small columns on the corners and a fifth, center, support the armillary sphere.
Pillory are stone columns placed in a public place the city or town where criminals were exposed to public shame, and the prisoners were bound and beaten and mutilated, according to the seriousness of the offense and the customs of the time.
The Pillory was also an instrument and proof of feudal jurisdiction.
