The 1972 action crime thriller had a couple of filming locations in San Marcos. This scene is shorting after Doc McCoy (played by Steve McQueen) is picked up after being released from prison by his loyal wife Carol McCoy (played by Ali MacGraw). Doc decides to jump into the swimming hole below the spillway of the former mill - fully clothed.
This location is still a popular swimming place for local college students as the San Marcos River is spring fed, thus a constant 72F temperature year around. The mill is now run as Saltgrass Steakhouse.
