The village sign is made of timber with the village name in relief at the bottom of the sign. The rest is taken up with a rural scene with a prominent hay stook. The overall colouring is green and the scene on each side is essentially the same. It is mounted on a timber pole, the sign itself on a metal stirrup attached to the pole.
The sign is on the green opposite the Green Man pub in this small Essex village-of-two-halves. This part of the village has the pub and is larger than the northern part which has the main parish church.
