Im Park Planten un Bloomen befindet sich diese Sonnenuhr, in der sich eine Zeitkapsel aus dem Jahre 1976 verbirgt. Auf wessen Initiative diese Zeitkapsel dort aufgestellt wurde ist heute leider nicht bekannt, nur das Datum der Inschrift der Tafel nennt den Namen "Ginn. O'Hara" vom Sonnenuhr-Forschungsinstitut Tokio. Auf der Plakette sind die Jahre angegeben, in denen die Zeitkapsel erneut geöffnet und mit aktuellen Dokumenten der jeweiligen Generation ergänzt werden sollen.
Die letzte Öffnung erfolgte im Mai 2006, und brachte alte Zeitungen, Münzen und die Speisekarte eines längst geschlossenen Restaurants zu Tage. Der Zustand der Gegenstände war jedoch katastrophal, da das Zedernholz, dass nach altem ägyptischen Rezept die Kapsel luftdicht verschließen sollte, die Jahre nicht überstanden hatte.
Die nächsten Öffnungen sollen in den Jahren 2026 und 2076 erfolgen. Seit 2006 liegen unter anderem Vakuum-verpackte CD-Roms mit zeitgenössischen Daten.
In the park Planten un Bloomen, one can find a time capsule from 1976 hidden in a sundial. Who created this capsule, and why, has been lost to the time. The only details the plaque on the sundial gives is the name "Ginn. O'Hara" from the sundial research-lab in Tokio. Also mentioned on the plaque are the dates when the time capsule should be opened again and an intruction on how to open it.
The last date for opening the time capsule was in May 2006. Stored in the capsule were old newspapers, coins and the price list of an now-closed restaurant. The condition of these things was horrible, as the cedar resin, brewed after an old egyptian recipe, didn't stand the test of time.
The next dates for opening will be in 2026 and 2076. Since 2006, vacuum-packed cd-roms are also stored in the capsule, containing data and news from this year.
