EN: The former chapel on the cemetery Rosental was created by Melchior Berri, the most important Swiss architect of classicism. The chapel was built in 1833 on the newly opened cemetery, at that time it was still outside of town. After several extensions, the cemetery was abandoned in 1890 for lack of space, and in 1914 the area was cleared. The chapel remained as the only relic. The porch with its Roman Doric columns give the simple Rotunda an antique air.
The chapel is now used by a music company as an exercise room. The Rosental square on which it stands, has only a fraction of the area of the original cemetery.
The old picture was taken 1914, shortly before the graves were removed.
DE: Die ehemalige Abdankungskapelle auf der Rosentalanlage stammt von Melchior Berri, dem bedeutendsten Schweizer Architekten des Klassizismus. Die Kapelle wurde 1833 auf dem neu errichteten Rosental-Friedhof erbaut, der sich damals noch ausserhalb der Stadt befand. Der Friedhof wurde nach diversen Erweiterungen 1890 aus Platzmangel wieder aufgegeben und 1914 abgeräumt. Die Kapelle bieb als einziges Relikt erhalten. Der schlichte Rundbau bekommt durch den Vorbau mit seinen römisch-dorischen Säulen einen antiken Zug.
Die Kapelle dient heute einer Musikgesellschaft als Übungslokal. Der Rosentalplatz auf dem sie steht, hat nur einen Bruchteil der Fläche des ursprünglichen Friedhofs.
