The Zuidbroekse mill is a wind engine of the brand Hercules Metallicus 1922 . The wind engine is manufactured by Deutsche Windturbinen Works Dresden and supplied by the company RS Stokvis Rotterdam. It’s installed to pump the polder Zuidbroek north of Bergambacht. Until then, the polder Zuidbroek was drained by a wipmolen , whose foundation is still visible.
The Zuidbroekse mill is the last remaining wind engine in Zuid-Holland , and was designated in 1984 as a provincial protected monument . On this occasion , the mill was fully restored and automated. The polder ( 262 ha ) is now drained by wind , but no wind , the drainage is automatically taken over by an electric motor. The current mill has a capacity of 545 liters per rotation ( max. ± 20 m3 per minute ) .
For a long time this mill was broken . A thorn in the side of mill enthusiasts. Especially since this relates to the last remaining wind engine in Zuid-Holland . In May 2013 the mill is restored and it’s running again.
