During six day, from the 06 to 12 of September 1966 the fire destroyed much of Sintra´s forest and putted in danger several local iconic places (Seteais and Monserrate Palaces, Pena´s Palace and even São Pedro de Sintra, a nearby village) and the debris on fire spread by the wind caused other villages to cough on fire too.
This fire become famous also because of the 25 military men that lost their lives while fighting the fire.
There´s at least two places in Sintra´s hills where we can find references and memorials to this.
