After worldwar II the
rubble of destroyed houses of Cologne was piled up to build 11 mountains which are located within parcs. At the top of this mountain in Beethovenpark a concrete weather shelter was errected in 1960s to avoid fire raising. In Germany they are called "Wetterpilze". Klaus-Heinz Herda has set up a collection of this beatifull buildings at
www.Wetterpilze.de which are reminiscent of a
fairy forest. The surface of the Wetterpilz often changes due to graffiti sprayer. This gazebo at Beethovenpark is frequently
used for festivities of all kinds. In summer students use this location as a
fireplace. In winter the Wetterpilz is starting point for tobboganing down the hill. Hundreds of children love this funny mushroom shaped gazebo and it reminds me on my own childhood.
