Severa was one of the most famous Fado singers in Portugal and she lived and sang around here.

She was born in 1820, when Fado was really starting and it was a thing of the poor people living in neighborhoods like this. She had an affair with a member of nobility, the Count of Vimioso, and with this she spread the seed of Fado in upper classes. She died young, aged 29. And in these streets she lived and sang. There are a few tributes with plaques like this dedicated to several other fado singers in this quarter, but probably this is the most significant one.
