Spring is just around the corner (we hope) for us northerners, so I thought this a good time to post a beach to keep our hopes up.

Though Castlegar has miles of shoreline on the Columbia River, this is its only real beach. In a little bay on the west side of the river, it is part of Castlegar's largest park, Twin Rivers Park. It has medium coarse sand, making it a nice sun bathing spot, as the pics (taken very late in the season) will attest. The Columbia, being fed by snow and glacier melt, will be bracingly cold through the summer, though not unbearably so. Let's just say that it will keep you cool on the hottest of summer days.
Twin Rivers Park is located on the Millennium Walkway. The park includes playing fields, viewing shelters, playground, picnic tables, interpretive signs, washrooms, sandy beach, large grass lawns and a swimming area. Millennium Walkway is a short paved interpretive walkway located at the confluence of the Columbia and Kootenay Rivers. Near the northern end of the walkway is an outdoor fitness and training area, available for use year round.
