In the park at the east end of Cannery Row, at the head of the Monterey Bay Marine Sanctuary, is this beautiful fountain
Designed as swirls of the kelp forests that grow offshore, water shoots up within the ball and cascades down into a simulated tidepool at it's base.
The fountain is named "Sanctuary", by Michael Duffy, Tibor Hajagos and John Random.
This is the view of the fountain from the landward side, which throws it into silhouette

The Monterey Bay Marine Sanctuary is in the distance behind the fountain. It is a huge underwater canyon. A visit to the Monterey Bay Aquarium at the other end of Cannery Row provides much more information about this natural wonder.
