- 1096 : Le pape Urbain II prêchant la croisade consacre la cathédrale pré-romane
- Vers 1100 : Est construite la cathédrale romane où la Duchesse d'Aquitaine, Aliénor, épouse le roi Louis VII. A l'époque des Ducs Plantagenet : Les murs sont haussés et la nef est voûtée
- 1305 : Bertrand de Goth, archevêque de Bordeaux, est consacré pape dans cette cathédrale ; grâce à lui, le choeur gothique, à la française, est construit.
- Vers 1330 : Jonction du choeur dans le style du Nord avec la nef de style méridional
- 1440 - 1446 : Construction de la Tour Pey-Berland, clocher de la cathédrale (N° 22 du plan ci-dessous)
- 1515 : Reconstruction des voûtes occidentales
