These trees were originally planted by Axel Erlandson in Scotts Valley. They featured magically complex designs and shapes. Erlandson grafted over 70 “wooden wonders.” After his death in 1964 the trees were left to the elements until Mark Primack led a valiant effort to save them.

In 1985, Michael Bonfonte purchased the surviving 31 trees and brought them to Gilroy. They became the center piece of what was then, Bonfonte Gardens.
