As long ago as 1985, studies noted a need for a second fire hall in Central Saanich. As the existing fire hall (WMHNYD), built in 1979, has aged and the population of Central Saanich has increased, that need has grown. In 2009, council began the process to build a new fire hall in the southern portion of the municipality, which would become the primary station while the old one would become a satellite station. Construction began in the summer of 2012 and the new fire hall's dedication and grand opening were held on September 14, 2013.
The building was designed by Johnston Davidson Architecture and Planning Inc., based on an award-winning fire hall design used by two other fire departments in BC. To meet Central Saanich's Municipal Green Building Policy, the building was designed to meet LEED Canada Silver Certification sustainability requirements. The building is also constructed to post-disaster building code standards so it can survive a major earthquake and act as the municipality's emergency operations centre.
The fire hall has four drive-through bays which can each hold two vehicles. At the time of this visit, six of the spots were occupied by trucks, one was occupied by the fire department's rescue boat on its trailer, and the last was empty.
