Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, sometimes called Thomas Masaryk in English (7 March 1850 – 14 September 1937), was an Austrian-Czech politician, sociologist and philosopher, who as an eager advocate of Czechoslovak independence during World War I became the founder and first President of Czechoslovakia.
Almost on top of Milenka hill is possible to find the remains of statue T. G. Masaryk. Other interesting sculptures are in the nearby The Blanik Knights’ Cave. The creator of this sculptures is Stanislav Rolínek, a talented self-taught sculptor.
T. G. Masaryk statue, which used to be the largest one in Europe, revealed on 28 October 1928. However, it was damaged by the Nazis during WWII (1942) and there are now only remains of the statue that show how large it used to be. The cave is surrounded by a park with a lot of exotic trees and bushes. The park also includes works from sculpting symposia.
The statue is located beside the Blanik Knights’Cave and top of Milenka hill.
