Built on the footprint of the original log church, St. Joseph's Catholic Church was built in 1888. The history of the church dates back to 1865 when Father Pierz began his service to then Rich Prairie, now Pierz, named in his honor. Father Pierz served as priest from 1871-1873 when he retired to Austria.

This church, begun in 1866, built in 1888 and was dedicated on Christmas Day in 1888.
