In 1979, David L. Spellerberg founded the “fine art” bronze foundry, the National Heritage Collectors Society, which later became Great American Bronze Works, Inc. of Westlake Village, California. His bronze art quickly become widely renowned due to his use of the "lost wax process", which allows for more details and depth than the more commercial modern styles of bronze sculptures. With the encouragement of his friends and clients: Gene Autry, Michael Wayne, and Burt Reynolds, David opened the prestigious National Heritage Gallery of Fine Art which was located at 315 N. Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, California for more than seven years.
Anyone who was in Beverly Hills in 1988 might remember the legendary "Rolls Royce Shuffle." David began parking his 1954 Silver Wraith Rolls-Royce outside the gallery to incite extra attention to the bronze art gallery. Once nearby clientele began complaining, David was cited and sued by the city of Los Angeles for the heinous crime of "feeding a meter"...and being a "public nuisance". This event escalated and gained worldwide tv and media attention for over a year and a half until finally a judge ordered a restraining order against his cars - none could be parked in front of the gallery for more than an hour at a time. Known for his humor, David Spellerberg hired two full time chauffeurs to rotate a fleet of five Rolls Royces every hour on the hours for more than a year and a half - the "Rolls Royce Shuffle." In honor of the occasion, Spellerberg launched a fragrance and clothing line titled, "Public Nuisance" as well as hosting the "Public Nuisance Parade".
In 1992, David left the retail gallery business to allow for more time to create new bronze sculptures, as well as to work with various sculptors to create a large collection of bronze art, which is still being added to today. These magnificent works of art are distributed by David and his staff to galleries, corporations and private collectors throughout the world. Bronze art from National Heritage Collector's Society / Great American Bronze Works, Inc has been featured in places such as the White House, in several Governor's offices, as awards for notable athletic competitions, and at Edison Field, the home of the Anaheim Angels!
Presently, David is continuing to expand his collection, as well as making custom bronze sculptures for men, women, and developers around the world. If what you're looking for isn't already in his collection, it is David's goal to precisely custom create your vision into a bronze reality!
