Mission San Juan Capistrano was established in 1776 to bring the Roman Catholic faith to the Native Americans in the area. The Mission normally has a recreated village at this site (which was being refurbished at the time the poster of this Waymark visited.) But next to the site are these apparently originally bedrock mortars. The Mission served as a location where the Native Americans were not only provided religious instruction...but also served as a mill and home to the Padres and Acjashemen peoples.
Type: Bedrock Mortar
