The Delbruegge-Schmulbach House was built circa 1868 with an addition circa 1883. The three-story house is in a Romantic Revival style with Classical and French influences. The brick and stone house has many decorative elements with arch doorway and windows. The house features a second floor large oriel window. The third floor has four arched shaped window opens with delicate frieze art above.

The original owner was William Delbruegge, who was a carpenter. The addition to the house was done by Henry Schmulbach, a successful businessman who opened Schmulbach Brewery while living in this house. He has business interests besides the brewery including banks, street railways, a telephone company, steel companies, and steamboat companies. He was also responsible for the first "skyscraper" in West Virginia, the Schmulbach Building, in downtown Wheeling.

The house has been recently restored and appears to be in excellent condition. The building continues to serve as a private residence.
