The families buried here are primarily the descendants of Benjamin Franklin Boydstun and his wife Mary Elizabeth Isabel Crenshaw. They migrated to Rockwall County, which was then Kaufman County, Texas, in about 1850 from Warren County, Kentucky, with stops in Adams and Warren Counties, Illinois. Benjamin F. Boydstun was the first school teacher in the area and taught school there for many years. It is said that Benjamin F. Boydstun owned land 12 miles square, and it was that land which later became Rockwall County. Benjamin F. Boydstun was the grandson and great grandson of Revolutionary Patriots, James Boydston Sr., and David Boydston.

Part of the cemetery faces Boydstun Avenue, which was named for this family, and there is some additional history and a portrait here. (
