This airport is located in the surroundings of Rome, not too far for a second airport. Easy connections by a handful of bus companies. It used to be an Air Force Base and the runway is still used by the military.
It's a relatively small airport, but not bad. Possible to spend the night there, and if one looks carefully there are even power sockets to keep electronic devices running and etc. Wi-Fi available for a price, although the initial hour is for free.
If you have time you can take a look at the old helicopters on display (well, you can only look from outside the fence) in the nearby military facilities.
