Milan Cathedral Plans Rooftop Concerts
By DAVE ITZKOFF
Hold on to your flying buttresses: the Milan Cathedral, the 600-year-old Italian Gothic structure, will host its first-ever concerts on the building’s roof, Reuters reported. The Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano, the group that oversees the building, said that it would hold five concerts from June 10 to July 15, featuring the music of Verdi as performed by a 60-piece orchestra and choir playing more than 160 feet above the ground. The organization said that it would offer 500 free tickets for the June 10 concert in an online drawing. Gianni Baratta, the artistic director of the concerts, said that it was “absolutely the first time in more than six centuries” that musicians had performed on the cathedral’s roof, according to Reuters.
Lest you fear for the safety of the musicians and the choir, the following photo suggests that the cathedral’s rooftop is a sufficiently horizontal space for them to perform on:"
