By 1935 Washington Water Power had two hydro projects right in the city of Spokane and more downstream on the Spokane River. Today, under the name of
Avista, they have hydro projects on several rivers in the Pacific Northwest, producing electricity for eastern Washington, northern Idaho and parts of southern and eastern Oregon.
In 1935, housewives, businessmen and farmers were still in the process of being introduced to electricity and all it could do for them, from washing clothes to grinding feed to lifting and moving heavy articles to cooking the evening meal. Electricity also provided lighting, heat and entertainment to both city and country dwellers, changing their lives forever. Also, in order to increase the bottom line, in the "Good Ole Days" utility companies were in the appliance business as well, peddling everything from motors to cream separators to clothes washers, including the "
Thor Complete Home Laundry" machine seen in this 1935 ad.
