Some old one-room schools were torn down; some were left to go to rack and ruin, and stand as ghosts of their former selves; some were remodeled into homes; and some were re-used as churches and/or community centers. As usual, an extensive web search was done for this former school, but the only reference found was in the
1940-41 Stone County School Directory when you click on
Pages 16 & 17. The topographic maps still show this school building where it stands. A back portion was added to the school house later, during the time it was used as a church.
The only way that it could be determined that the school was later used as a church is from the sign along the road that has been allowed to fall down. It appears that the building is still being used for something, since:
- It has a nicely painted propane tank, which would have been removed if the building was no longer used.
- It has an electric meter on the utility pole, which also would have been removed.
- It is kept in good condition and has an air conditioner in one window.
- There is a sign indicating that voting was, at one time, done here, probably not too long ago. (Perhaps recently.)
