1898: Thousands of Chinese scholars and Beijing citizens protest in front of the Capital Control Yuan, asking for reform.
1908: A 40,000-year-old Neanderthal boy skeleton is found at Le Moustier in southwest France by Otto Hauser.
1918: The United States Post Office Department begins the world's third regular airmail service, between New York City, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.
