V roce 1627 daroval císar Ferdinand II. kostel stredoveký sv. Havla, faru a školu obutým karmelitánum. Darované objekty byly pro karmelitány malé a proto se snažili koupit okolní objekty. Jednání za klášter vedl Carlo Lurago. Smlouvu o koupi se jim podarilo uzavrít až v roce 1664. Základní kámen nového kláštera slavnostne položil arcibiskup Matouš Sobek z Bílenberku v roce 1671. Autorem budovy je G. D. Orsi, Lurago v dobe zahájení stavby již v Praze nežil. Stavba byla dokoncena až v roce 1704. V roce 1786, po zrušení rádu, prešly budovy kláštera do majetku náboženského fondu, byly premeneny na krámy a pozdeji na manufakturu vyrábející krajky. K radikální prestavbe došlo ve 30. letech 20. století. V druhé polovine 20. století v budove sídlilo sovetské kulturní stredisko, sovetská prodejna Cajka a další podobné instituce.

In 1627 the emperor Ferdinand II. gave medieval church of St. Havel, rectory and school to Carmelites. Donated objects were small for Carmelites needs, they tried to buy the surrounding objects. Negotiations for the monastery led by architect Carlo Lurago. Agreement to purchase concluds in 1664. The foundation stone of the new monastery was laid by Archbishop Matthew Sobek of Bilenberk in 1671. Construction was completed in the 1704. In 1786, after the abolition of the order, the monastery buildings were converted into shops and later at the manufactory producing lace. The radical reconstruction took place in the 30th of 20th century. In the second half of the 20th century, the building housed the Soviet Cultural Centre, the Soviet Chaika shop and other similar institutions.
