North Gower United Church was built as a Methodist Church in 1870. These Methodists joined the United Church upon its creation in 1925. At the time, the Presbyterians in the nearby church joined the Methodists in the old Methodist building. The former Presbyterian church served as a hall until it burned down in 1967, just as Centennial renovations were being completed. The original datestone from that church can be seen in front of the United Church.
The building is of frame construction in a classic design with a square 'four bay' sanctuary with a tower in front. The tower supports an octagonal belfry and spire over a small entranceway. The clock used to be painted on, to correspond with service times. A long list of renovations include two major renovations of the sanctuary, the installation of an elevator, new doors, new clocks for the tower and recladding of the entire building. The clocks now show the correct time.

This building was constructed between 1870 and 1872 as the second North Gower Methodist Church. The original Methodist Church had been built around 1859 and its destruction by fire prompted the building of this replacement. After the church union of 1925, this church became the United Church, serving the consolidated congregation.
