This arcraft is hanging from the ceiling. It seemed to be a Lockheed F-104A Straighter aircraft. It was for NASA most likely to test high altitude flights and stress it would cause on the aircraft. There were over 2000 aircrafts built of this type. Most of them for military use for more than a dozen countries, but this one was for scientifically purposes for the space program. This was an experimental aircraft like most in the museum. The engine on this was part of an experiment by NASA to test how low quantities of oxygen can effect an engines efficiency.
