Fritz Pümpin (1901-1972) was a Swiss painter who is especially known for his impressionist landscape paintings. The Fritz Pümpin Foundation created a walk through his home town with twelve stations showing the differences between the time when they were created and today.
"Dorfplatz" was painted in 1940. The location is at the beginning of the road up to the chuch hill and the viewing direction is towards west.
The painting shows the main place with the fountain and a large building in the background. The building was a butcher shop then and had to small outbuildings next to it. The house is an office building today; the northern part was completely changed. The two outbuildings had to make room for parkings. Only the fountain still looks the same.
