The name "Mission Beach" come from a Queensland Governement Aboriginal Settlement known as the Hull River Settlement, which was located at present South Mission Beach. Built in 1914, it was destroyed by a cyclone in 1918. Local referred to it as 'the mission' when there was actually no religious involvement, from this name Mission Beach developed, based on local assumption rather than actual fact.
