Das Alte Rathaus in Bamberg ist eines der bedeutendsten Bauwerke, das die historische Innenstadt prägt.
Das Wahrzeichen symbolisiert die Herrschaftsgrenze aus früherer Zeit zwischen dem bischöflichem Bamberg und der bürgerlichen Innenstadt. Es ist in den Fluss Regnitz gebaut und die Obere und Untere Brücke (ursprüngliche eine Privatbrücke) führen von ihm weg. Im Inneren ist die zu den Museen der Stadt Bamberg gehörende Sammlung Ludwig ausgestellt, eine der größten Porzellansammlungen Europas.
Baugruppe auf einer Regnitzinsel, durch zwei Brücken mit den Ufern verbunden (vgl. Obere Brücke und Untere Brücke): über hohem Werksteinuntergeschoss zweigeschossiger Rathausbau, im Kern 1461-67, umgebaut 1619, 1744-56 umgestaltet, Fassadenmalerei, ursprünglich von Johann Anwander 1755, 1960 ff. rekonstruiert, Brückenturm um 1385 neu erbaut, 15. Jahrhundert umgebaut und 1749-51 wohl von Martin Mayer um ein Geschoss mit Laternenhaube erhöht, reich mit Rocailleornamentik geschmückte Balkone und Wappen 1755/56 von Joseph Bonaventura Mutschele (1883/94 durch Kopien von Philipp Dorsch und Lorenz Kamm ersetzt), davor auf dem Eisbrecher der Oberen Brücke aufsitzendes Rottmeisterhäuschen, dreigeschossiger Fachwerkbau mit Satteldach, 1668
The Old Town Hall in Bamberg is one of the most important buildings that characterizes the historic downtown.
The emblem symbolizes the domination limit from an earlier period between the episcopal and civil Bamberg city center. It is built into the river Regnitz and the Upper and Lower Bridge (originally a private bridge) leading off it. Inside, belonging to the museums of the city of Bamberg Ludwig Collection is exhibited, one of the largest porcelain collections in Europe.
