Established in 1893, City View Cemetery is located in south Salem, immediately west of the historic Salem Pioneer (I.O.O.F.) Cemetery. City View contains approximately 17,000 graves plus an additional 1,500 within the Mt. Crest Abbey Mausoleum. Incorporated in 1893, the cemetery includes two "veterans circles" with markers honoring those who fought in the Civil War and in foreign wars.

Henry Schauer, awarded the Medal of Honor for heroic service in World War II, is buried at City View.
