EDIT:
The original title of this waymark was: "
I Wish I Knew". Well, to fulfil my wish,
The A-Team contacted us to tell us that they had seen another of these and actually found out what it was. It is known as a
Hay Tedder, and is used to turn hay laying in the field to aid in drying it.
Prior to EDIT:
I've been thinking about it for a week now and still can't come up with this machine's practical use. It's just not obvious without seeing it in action.
It consists of 6 long spring steel forks, about 8 to 10 inches long, mounted on a crankshaft which may be raised and lowered by the operator. The forks, when operating, will move back and forth and up and down in a complex motion, achieving who knows what. Rock picker? Potato digger? Hay turner? The whole she-bang is ground driven by narrow steel wheels and the manufacturer is, unfortunately, unknown.
I Grew up on a farm and thought I had seen every type of implement known to man - but this is still a puzzler. Any help out there?
It is one of the many pieces of agricultural machinery on display at the Museum. Though there is a $5.00 charge to view the main building's displays, the outdoor displays are free to view and available all year. The museum building is closed from October through April.
