The German Bank of Wheeling building was constructed circa 1900. The six-story building is in a Neo-Classical style.

The building is on the site of Washington Hall which was destroyed by a fire in 1875. Washington Hall was a very important building in West Virginia history as it was where the first two conventions were held in 1861 where discussions were conducted on whether West Virginia should separate from Virginia.

The current building was where the first Veterans of the World War was organized, this then became American Legion Post #1 the oldest post.

The building is in good condition and is now used by a law office and other professional offices.
