Along IL Route 29 on the south border with Chillicothe is this population sign:

"Chillicothe
6000"

Route 29 is a divided highway and the main road along the west bank of the mighty Illinois River. Chillicothe is at the northern end of the Upper Peoria Lake of the river. It is also a major railroad junction with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe and the Iowa Interstate Terminal. The sign is south of the center of Chillicothe and north of Rome.

The area around the sign is a commercial district, with a motel a little further north and stores on the southbound side.
Address: IL Route 29, northbound side, south of Chillicothe center.
