[english:] The river Roer is the most species-rich river in the Netherlands. 41 different fish species are living in it. In Roermond is a big hydroelectric power station. Until 2008, the fish travel was ending here. Now, the fishes have the ability to continue the journey by using the fish ladder.
[deutsch:] Die Rur (niederländisch "Roer") ist der fischreichste Fluss der Niederlande. Laut Infoschild an der Fischtreppe sollen angeblich 41 verschiedene Fischarten im niederländischen Teil des Flusses leben, andere Quellen gehen sogar von 52 verschiedenen Arten aus. Um den Fischen durch den Bau des Wasserkraftwerkes den Weg nicht mehr zu versperren, wurde 2008 nachträglich diese Fischtreppe gebaut. Von ehrenamtlichen Helfern werden alle Fische, die die Treppe nutzen, egal, in welcher Richtung, gezählt und katalogisiert. Zwischen 15.000 und 20.000 Tiere zählen die freiwilligen Helfer im Schnitt pro Jahr.
