Two on-looking antelope stood as a dramatic reminder that the wilds of the prairie were giving way to a future of develpment as the town founders drove the first corner stake for the town of Huron on April 19, 1880. The original plat encompassed eleven blocks and the stake remains at the corner of what is now Market Street and Dakota Avenue.
