"Costing FRF 3,190,000 to complete, the Olympic luge track was completed using 1,400 cubic metres of earthwork and 1,800 cubic metres of reinforced concrete. The facility had three start houses, 132 lighting posts, telephone circuitry, 40 loudspeakers, and a signalling system for the competitors." (

Villard-de-Lans a accueilli les épreuves de luge sur les pentes de la Balmette à l'occasion des Jeux olympiques d'hiver de 1968 de Grenoble.
Le monument souvenir est situé près de l'Office de Tourisme et de l'Espace Loisirs de Villard-de-Lans au centre du village.
