Station, opened for public use in January 1st, 1871 (and recently reconstructed), is important for passenger services in Ostrava region. It connects Ostrava with Ceský Tešín and Valašské Mezirící. The station has a very good interconnection with Ostrava public transport system (tram, bus and trolleybus stops are located in the close proximity) and with regional & national bus hub - Ostrava Main Bus Station (situated ca 200 m from the railway station).
