[EN] In 1950, the first American military personnel arrived in Saint-Benoît-la-Forêt to install a base of material in the forest of Chinon.
Many Benedictins (inhabitants of Saint-Benoît) worked as civilian personnel in this base and discovered the organization, methods, and a bit of American culture of the time.
In February 1967 held the farewell ceremony of U.S. troops in front of this stele newly placed at the foot of the church. This stele, erected to the memory of President John F. Kennedy was earlier in the heart of the U.S. base. She was given that day to the town of Saint-Benoît "by making the wish that it will be maintained and respected."
This has so far always been the case.
[FR] En 1950, les premiers militaires américains arrivent à Saint-Benoît-la-Forêt pour y installer un dépôt de matériel dans la forêt de Chinon.
De nombreux bénédictins (habitants de Saint-Benoît) travaillèrent comme personnel civil sur la base et découvrirent ainsi l'organisation, les méthodes et un peu de la culture américaine de l'époque.
En février 1967 s'est déroulée la cérémonie d'adieu des troupes américaines devant cette stèle nouvellement installée au pied de l'église. Cette stèle, érigée à la mémoire du président John F. Kennedy, s'élevait auparavant au cœur de la base américaine. Elle fut confiée ce jour-là à la commune de Saint-Benoît "en faisant le vœu qu'elle soit entretenue et respectée".
Cela a jusqu'à ce jour toujours été le cas.
